About Us!
Welcome to the web site of Kari and Craig Smith and Kathy Ramussen (Blanchard, Oklahoma) - the partners of Rainbow Show Dogs and owner of Canine Sports Academy . We are owners, breeders, handlers, and trainers of show dogs, performance dogs and family pets.

In the late 1970's -  we started going to AKC (American Kennel Club) dogs shows. Our first show dog was a
Siberian Husky and our biggest success came in the early 1990's with our Nationally Ranked, multiple Group Winning, BISS (Best in Specialty Show) Champion KisNTel's I See A Rainbow. Now we have her three grandsons, one is a AKC Champion and the other 2 have their CD's (Companion Dog) Obedience Titles  and all three have their RN's (Rally Novice) Obedience titles!  The two with CD's are also Siberian Specialty Show High Scoring In Obedience Trial winners.  One boy has his RA (Rally Advance) Title and another lacks one leg to complete his RA Title.  We have a new Siberian - his name is "Cosmo" Thank you to Bruce and Joanne Barnes for allowing him to join our family and we look forward to presenting him to the fanciers as he grows up.

In 1999 we added a
Cardigan Welsh Corgi to the line up. Our personal Cardis have earned Five AKC Championships, two CD obedience titlea and two RN rally obedience titles, 3 TDAA agility titles.. The eldest Cardigan is also herding instinct certified. We have produced five litters of Cardigans and every litter has had success in the show ring and performance events with 3 champions and an agility title.

In 2003 - we added our third breed, the
Pointer to our family.  Four have come into our home and three have earned their AKC Championships  - all finishing their title within their first year of showing!  The Fourth arrived August 2009 - so watch for more information as he grows and enters the show ring.

In 2007, we decided to add a fourth breed - a
Curly Coated Retriever - "Desi".  Kari joined ownership with Dennis Akins and we have the 2007 National Specialty Best of Breed Winner as part of the Rainbow Showdogs and She finished the 2007 show year as the #3 Breed Curly and #4 All Breed Curly!!  Desi racked up an impressive resume from wins at Westminster, Eukanuba Invitational, and now out in the field!
At the 2008 National Specialty Desi took Best of Opposite Sex!!!!  Desi was bred in 2008 and one of these pups has earned his Championship.

We are also extremely proud that all four of our chosen breeds have been deemed worthy of winning awards at their given National Specialty
Breed shows.

I started showing dogs with my mom in the 70's as a Junior Handler.  As most people, life pulled me away from the sport for school and such but I came back in the early 90's and by 2000 I started
handling dog for clients.  I have blessed with showing dogs in all groups with multiple group placers, lots of Champions and most important, many new and dear friends and people to enjoy dog shows with.

Craig and I have been married for over 16 years.  We live in Blanchard, OK..  My mom - Kathy lives on the same street.  We own brick homes on one acre lots that are fenced and have kennel structures to help protect the dogs from the elements.  Craig and I have a bit of a green thumb and I enjoy my rose bushes and spring time flowers and we enjoy trying to have a vegetable garden every year.  .

Kathy has been taking a second seat to me in the dog show world - but I do believe her time has come to return!  She has opened her own business -
Canine Sports Academy.  This is a dream of hers.  She has  a wonderful training facility that has classes in obedience, conformation, agility, puppy kindergarten, and we look forward to other classes for pet therapy, earth dog, dancing with your dogs, etc.

Our dogs are our family members, our babies and as you can see from these photos - they are sofa buddies and bed hogs.  They are crate trained - but when we are home - they are with us.  When a dog enters our household, it stays there for life.  We do different activities with the dogs to keep them entertained and feel loved. Once it is determined an animal won't be used in our breeding program, it is spayed/neutered to help it stay healthy and for our house to stay sane.

We only breed when we are trying to produce a puppy for us to continue our line.  Our price is set with the current standards for high quality dogs and it helps cover the cost of having a litter, genetic tests, stud fees, prenatal expenses, and puppy expenses.  The price also helps ensures the new owners take the puppy seriously as a new family member and not a thing to dispose of when they tire of it.  We have a puppy application and puppy contracts to help us determin if you are a good fit for one of our babies.  Not every dog is a show dog - but every dog deserves a loving home.

One final note - either Kathy and I are members in good standing with: Siberian Husky Club of America, Cardigan Welsh Corgi Club of America, Pointer Club of America, Siberian Husky Club of Greater Oklahoma City, and Oklahoma City Obedience Training Club, International Association of Canine Professionals, Association of Pet Dog Trainers, AKC Canine Good Citizen Evaluter, Blue Bonnet Cardigan Welsh Corgi Club, Three Trails Cardigan Welsh Corgi Club. We sign and abide by all code of ethics given by each organization and do our best to protect each of the wonderful breeds that have made their home with us.
